The Ultimate Runner’s Vacation:
Cruise to Run

In some circles,
cruises are considered vacations for only the newlywed, the overly fed, and the
nearly dead. But Cruise to Run targets an entirely different demographic:
active people. This cruise features stops at six Caribbean
islands for organized runs and a few races. I was one of the original
passengers in 2007 and I returned last year for two reasons: Friesen’ and
freezing. Organizer Jerry Friesen and his wife, Jody, bend over backward to
make sure every runner has a fantastic time, and it’s usually cold as heck in Pennsylvania in
February. In 2008, we boarded a Princess Cruise Ship in San
Juan, Puerto Rico, and sailed to Barbados,
Saint Lucia, Antigua, Tortola, and Saint
Thomas, where we went on morning runs and spent the
rest of the day exploring, swimming in the clear waters, and enjoying the
amenities of the cruise ship. The ship features a fitness center and Cruise to Run offers exercise classes and running clinics, a movie
theater, comedy club, and great restaurants.
